In mid-2006, Gabriel Busquets had the opportunity to travel to Europe and create a new line of contemporary, hand-blown glass lamps for Brokis, a company based in the Czech Republic. Each innovative lighting piece fulfills the need for function, and his clean, simplistic, modern designs reflect who he is as an artist. For this project, Busquets used existing molds to develop nontraditional, retro lighting, expressing practicality with originality.rnrnBorn and raised in Puerto Rico, Busquets initially moved to the United States as an exchange student at North Carolina State in 1998. Unhappy and unsatisfied with the career path he had originally chosen, he decided to find solace in his true passion, art and design. Soon after this resolution, he moved to Savannah, Ga., to obtain his B.F.A. in industrial design at the Savannah College of Art and Design and the following two years, he worked on his M.F.A. in furniture design. Upon completion in 2004, he moved to Miami, Florida where he began working as a custom furniture designer. he is currently working on his own line of furniture, due to be released sometime in 2009.
