“My work is a parallel universe in which the collected symbols of Earth throughout all of its known history can co-exist, and gel into a new version of itself. I paint hybrid worlds where past and present are aligned, science and the natural world are friends again – where the holy and the ordinary are equally revered, and space and volume are interchangeable. Most of my images stem from a searching, yet playful way of grappling with concepts that are beyond the grasp of easy comprehension: concepts of dimensionality; space, time.
Often, my paintings are personal, associative ways of visually explaining these natural or scientific phenomena. Using an array of painting and drawing techniques, I employ the full spectrum of mark-making vocabulary to strengthen the intrigue between the medium and the subject – and between the viewer and the painting itself. The variety of materials and marks is meant to correspond directly with the images they construct resulting in a full range of moods, surfaces, and opportunities for interpretation.
Painted, these scenes become part of our planet’s historical vernacular and, long from now, may even be read as one possible truth of our existence…”
