The work of artist Jay Schmetz is sure to brighten any heart or home. Inspired by his many pets (his muses), and his love and empathy for all animals, he creates vivid paintings of everyday situations that celebrate the beauty, humor and individual personalities of animals in colorful home environments. We have declared on occasion that if anyone is going to heaven surely it’s going to be Schmetz His work exudes a sweetness and purity that most of us cannot help but be charmed and delighted by it. Since receiving his M.F.A. in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1999, Schmetz has continued painting professionally and resides in Savannah, Ga., with his wife, Charese, and their nine pot-bellied pigs and seven dogs.
