Although born in England in 1979 John Caldwell received his early education in Virginia where his interest and natural talent in drawing became apparent. On his return to England his art continued to flourish. During this period he completed a series of work. At the University of Wales Aberystwyth (BFA Honors) he solidified his pastel and oil work, finding confidence in vibrant colors and strong draftsmanship. Several portrait commissions were completed at this time. One of his pastel pieces was part of a juried exhibition at Hampton Court Palace to commemorate Prince Charles’s fiftieth birthday. John continued his education at the Savannah College of Art and Design where he earned an MFA in illustration. As a result John has received short story illustration work for magazines such as Esquire. rnrnRecently John has exhibited his various styles together. His figurative pastel drawings depict scenes from everyday experience; while his ink drawings articulate whimsical and humorous imagery spawned from his imagination.
