Joshua Gardner fell into felting vicariously through two of his fiber’s major friends at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Although studying film and television there, he couldn’t help but be drawn to the delicate and painstaking procedure of needle felting. After watching one of his friends finish her project for a fibers class, Gardner picked up a felting needle and hasn’t put it down in almost two years. He has always had a fondness for creating, especially on a miniature scale. As a youth he enjoyed constructing models and their attention to detail. Now, with felt, he is able to transfer all that creative energy into his pieces. It wasn’t until making his friends several rings and with their strong encouragement that he decided to ask ShopSCAD to exhibit his work. Joshua continues to test his boundaries, exploring the endless possibilities of needle felting and is excited at what the future holds. Although filmmaking is his first passion, felting is second only by a hair.
