Libby Hodgkins graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2004 with a degree in metals and jewelry. Her love for jewelry began as a young girl. Every time she visited her grandmother, she would ask to look at her jewelry. Her grandmother would tell her the stories of each piece, while Hodgkins would bejewel herself with her favorite necklaces and rings. rnShe began her jewelry company, Lulu Bird after graduating from college. Lulu Bird was a nickname her mother gave her when she was very young. Her nickname was just lulu until she got excited, then she would flap her arms and squeak. A lulu bird was born. Libby now lives and works in Providence, R.I., where she designs mass production costume jewelry. It’s a big difference from the one-of-a-kind and limited production line she created, but she loves the idea of thousands of her designs being made. She hopes that one day, a girl will visit her grandmother jewelry box and hear the story her jewelry has to tell.
