Liz Koomler grew up in the heart of the Midwest, a far journey from the charming city of Savannah. With much encouragement from her high school art department, family and friends, she made the natural transition to the Savannah College of Art and Design. By the end of her first year she found the fibers department. It quickly became her major, then her passion. She used her time at SCAD to establish a line of accessories and home goods that combine her love of fabric and color. rnHer early work helped her explore the boundaries of making in multiples. Her first studio production line of handmade hats struck her imagination. Stopping at just hats never seemed to be an option. She went on to create bags, stationery sets, kitchen accessories, and much more. Each piece exemplifying extreme patience and love for the techniques used. Constant color and trend research is the stimulant for her ideas. All of her works demonstrate her love for sewing and attention to detail. rnKoomler’s current work reflects her love for historical fabrics. Her ambition has been to incorporate traditional craft into contemporary society. Reinventing everyday objects and applying the technique of piecing fabric to create form and function is the focus of her work. The constant bond of the artist and materials is the driving force along with the anticipation of a beautiful outcome.
