“I was born in rural Minnesota to a hardworking Midwestern family. My mother was a nurse and ran a bed and breakfast, which was also our home. My Father was an elementary art teacher, and also made stained glass art as a small side business. From an early age I found solace and satisfaction in the long hard hours in the studio, working alongside my father. Eventually, he allowed me to create jewelry from the scraps of glass we were otherwise discarding. I began selling these early pieces, alongside his work, at trade shows and in galleries as early as age 11. From age 12 I knew I was destined to be a jeweler, and have not looked back since. I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design and graduated Cum Laude with a BFA in Metals and Jewelry in 2007. After graduating I worked in Maine as a silversmithing instructor for two consecutive summers, while working as a bench jeweler for one year in Savannah. I now work as a studio goldsmith at Barbara Heinrich Studio in Pittsford NY. I established my own business, Seth Michael Studio, officially in 2009.” –Seth Carlson
