Tamara Garvey is an illustration student at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has a degree in Biology from Mary Washington College, but the two post-college years she spent working in office jobs in Washington, D.C., convinced her that she was destined to become self-employed. Rediscovering a childhood love of drawing, she decided to return to school — this time for art. In addition to Fredericksburg, Va., and Washington, D.C., she also lived in London for a year, and once spent three weeks backpacking around Europe with only two outfits. Her favorite illustrators are Edward Gorey, Ralph Steadman and Aubrey Beardsley. In her own work, she enjoys working in ink, or ink combined with another medium. She has always loved to read, and thus her pieces depict narratives, and sometimes even incorporate text with the images. After she graduates, she intends to pursue a career as a freelance illustrator — preferably in the editorial field. She would like to remain in Savannah for as long as possible, even though it is way, way too hot here.
