Four years ago, with the encouragement of her art teachers back home, Yana Dimitrova traveled to Georgia from her hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria, to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design. When SCAD-Atlanta opened in March 2005, Dimitrova opted to pursue her studies closer to her family, who had settled in Milledgeville, Ga.rnOn June 3, 2006, she was among the first SCAD-Atlanta students to graduate, earning a B.F.A. in painting. At the ceremony, she was honored with the painting department’s Outstanding Achievement Award.
