"I've recently started collecting antique pieces of jewelry which have been made with actual butterfly wings. I love the notion of capturing such silky, vibrant color. Such a keepsake indeed! The antique brooch that I've included in this piece is the largest I've used thus far. It is 2 3/8" in length and 5/8" in height. Three large oval globes of glass protect three specimens of butterfly wings: the first is a golden amber piece with pink highlights and iridescent blue spots. This wing is in the best condition with vein lines still apparent. The other two are just as spectacular in color, though have little texture. The middle wing is a soft, stormy blue while the last is a mossy green. The piece is crafted in solid sterling silver and has an ornate band around the edge and a lovely antique oxidized patina.

From the brooch I've created a collection of charms which dangle and move freely upon a crescent of hand-coiled sterling silver wire. Included is a large 22-carat drop of exquisite Swiss blue topaz. The large topaz is nearly flawless, though there is a feathery inclusion on the right side. Surrounding the large drop is a collection of moss aquamarine, rainbow moonstone, white moonstone, London blue topaz, golden citrine, and champagne and pink schiller Oregon sunstone. Gently oxidized sterling silver and an accent of solid 18k yellow gold metal has been employed.

The pin mechanism is 2/8 wide by 5/8" high, while the entire piece measures just a tad over 2" tall." --Jennifer Hallsey
