Kira Milligan

(B.F.A. Painting 2016)

Kira Milligan (b. 1994, Naperville, IL) graduated with a B.F.A. from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2016. In 2014, she was awarded a monetary sum for being a Prismyan Challenge Finalist, and in 2016, Milligan was the undergraduate recipient for the SCAD School of Fine Arts’ Outstanding Achievement Award.

As an American citizen raised in Tanzania and Kenya, Milligan explores the experience of calling a place home while simultaneously being seen as an outsider. Her work also looks at misconceptions and idealizations, and how these manifest in the sense of place. Milligan has exhibited and sold her work in numerous group exhibitions, including INHABIT, at Oglethorpe Gallery (Savannah, GA), as well as exhibiting at the Savannah Law School in a 2-person show, IN-BETWEEN PARADISE. Milligan has also shown at the SCAD B.F.A. Senior Painting Exhibition in Alexander Hall (Savannah, GA), and most recently, she helped to organize and participated in an international exhibition in Lacoste, France.

For the past several months, after graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design in November, Kira Milligan has been living and working at her high school alma mater, Rift Valley Academy (RVA), in Kijabe, Kenya. RVA is an international boarding school, providing education to children of missionaries to the African continent. This brings students of many different backgrounds together, giving students and staff members alike a cross-cultural learning experience and environment. Milligan has been helping to teach in several art classes with varying age groups, as well as giving extra help sessions to students in French classes.
