Kristi Hyde

(B.F.A., illustration, 1998)

Kristi Hyde graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1998 with a B.F.A. in illustration. She is now a working artist and jewelry designer in Atlanta.

“As a multimedia artist I assume projects of all different proportions and purpose, and the ever-changing landscape of my art career is what inspires my life and keeps it curious. Whether I am working on a group show of cut-and-paste art or designing a book cover, I am also making jewelry, a business I began to pursue in 2002 while simultaneously painting murals and sculpting clay in my studio. My jewelry designs are inspired by the surrounding elements of my urban life and my fascination for antique jewelry. I might consider my style to be modern vintage infused with an organic design philosophy. I believe every component in a piece should have a relationship with the next, and the simplest parts of the design are equally important as the intricate parts. I believe jewelry should be worn for its beauty, but also as a reflection of character, personality and a representation of the human condition. Making a one of a kind jewelry piece is like telling a story. Whether it is one of a kind or a three, four or five of a kind, I want the women who wear my jewelry to feel as if they’ve been united with the piece, as if the piece were made especially for them.”
