Maggie Copeland

(B.F.A. Metals and Jewelry 2006)

Palethorp is a Brooklyn-based semi-exotic handbag collection for the luxury lover with a rebellious spirit and an eye for what comes next.

The designer, Maggie Copeland, spent years working for handbag lines like L.A.M.B. and Foley and Corinna, while searching everywhere for a luxurious snakeskin bag at an affordable price point. Maggie decided to fill the void in the marketplace with the launch of her inaugural collection in the summer of 2012.

Palethorp takes its name from Maggie’s mother and grandmother, who introduced her to fashion, design and craftsmanship at a young age by teaching her to sew and allowing her to rummage through trunks filled with vintage fabric so she could design her own clothing and accessories. Throughout her childhood, Maggie always admired their resourcefulness and personal style, which ultimately inspired her to pursue a degree in fashion and accessory design at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

“I am inspired by the materials themselves, the world around me and the women who raised me,” says Maggie. “Working to craft pieces that would make my mother and grandmother smile plays a huge role in the look of the collection-they both appreciated design that was unique.”
